I was expecting to see the car's side caved in from someone backing out of a driveway - but this is just as bad.

Any clues as to which house the jerks were coming from? Maybe they'll be stupid enough to come back by later in the same car that caused the damage...

I'm betting a truck or SUV -- look how the trunk is all caved in but the bumper itself is entirely fine. Who in the area owns an SUV or truck? Does it have scratches on its bumper?

They just have vehicle compatability issues when involved in collisions with trucks. I totaled my Integra because a truck bumper overshot my bumper, resulting in the, well, engine taking the force of the impact.

*nod* Someone I knew rear-ended a huge pickup truck or SUV, I've forgotten which, and her air bags didn't go off, because the bumper hit higher up on her hood than her air bags were triggered, apparently. She had no bumper damage, either.

Yeah, stuff like that's even worse. It's getting to be a fairly huge design issue in the field.

1) Major suckage. I'm betting that there are parts of the other car around, and that the other car has noticeable damage. That's quite a hard hit. I'm guessing drunk.

2) If your sister has uninsured motorist coverage (required in some states), she should be able to get the repairs covered under that. My parents had something similar occur. Their van was involved in a hit and run where the liftgate was damaged. Their insurance covered the repairs under the uninsured motorist coverage.

The minimum required here is collision, for damage we do to other cars. That's all I have on mine, my car isn't worth the cost of three months worth of premiums for comprehensive or uninsured motorist insurance.

katster, did she call the cops on this? For hit-and-run, they're sometimes interested for the sake of catching a bad guy, and can get evidence from around the car.

That's way, way worse than the asshole who hit-and-run'd my car. That really, really sucks.

On my insurance, if I report the hit-and-run within 24 hours and file a police report, they waive the deductible - talk to the insurance and see if there's anything like that they can do...

that's messed up.. I hope the police were called. Maybe they'll find a paint chip on the car they can at least guess what color the vehicle is that hit the car.. also I'm sure the car that hit her sister's vehicle has bits of paint etched onto their car as well.
