A bit of amusement for a friday afternoon. Guess the songs and the respective artists.

1. Who knew that mrfnord was as enchanted with a waste allocation bot as I was? A point to him for getting Peter Gabriel's "Down to Earth" from this summer's best movie, Wall-E
   Did you think you'd escaped from routine
   By changing the script and the scene
   Despite all you made of it
   You're always afraid of a change



2. Take me down alleys where the murders are done
   In a vast high-powered rocket to the core of the sun
   Want to read books and the studies of men
   Born on the breeze and die on the wind



3. datagoddess scores the first point by identifying "Downeaster Alexa" by Billy Joel
   And I go where the ocean is deep
   There are giants out there in the canyons
   And a good captain can't fall asleep



4. eclecticmum gets a point for identifying "Helicopters" by BNL
   Everybody's laughing while at me they point a finger
   A world that loves its irony must hate the protest singer



5. zibblsnrt scores the first of his two points by identifying this as Great Big Sea's "England"
   Should we find fortune's favor and be spared from the gale

   All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
   I like watching the puddles gathering
   And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
   And speak my point of view but it's not sane



10. A point to gridlore, who knew this was Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" and a bonus point for providing the wonderful video. (See the comments.)

You know, I had it pegged that you'd come up with it, but I realized it was con weekend and hadn't expected to see you at all. So a pleasant surprise to me. :)

Yeah, the specific version on my player is the Byrds' version, which I fell in love with after hearing it on a episode of Cold Case, but I figured I'd accept any reasonable answer for this one. Dylan was an alternate I knew, since he wrote it. :)

And, oh, that is nice, although it reminds me that Dylan himself is definitely an acquired taste. (And a taste I've acquired, but singing after Clapton -- that's just brutal.) :)
