And I’m not sure if it will turn out to be the end of the tunnel or an oncoming train.

I have a job interview Thursday. No, I don’t know with who, and I don’t know what I’m going to have to know, and I’m merely hoping that I’ve got what it takes. And yeah. eek.

So anxious.

I have a recommendation of what became the most useful prep tool for interviews, back when I had tons of interviews after the .com crash.

"201 best questions to ask on your interview" by Kador.

It's a great book overall.

What I used it to help me with is putting together about 12 questions- 4 sets of 3 questions each- that I could use to interview the interviewer. Obviously I didn't use questions straight from the book, but reworked questions to match both my style and (as needed) the type of company.

By having this questions ready it made the interview balanced: I'm interviewing them just as much as they're interviewing me.

If the interviewer(s) were inexperienced, I could help them smooth over awkward silences. Early on in my job search, it also helped me smooth over awkward blanks in my mind.

And just generally people like answering questions, as long as it doesn't sound like you're using pre-packaged questions. That's why I edited the questions- and practice, practice, practice- before using them.

After a while- after a few interviews- I became relaxed enough that interviewers never got to the dreaded "do you have any questions for me?"-- the interviews had already turned into conversations. And the one biggest help was that book.

Unfortunately I don't see my copy nearby, else I'd flag some pages.
