I really should have called that last post ‘Folsom Parking Blues’.

Speaking of the original, isn’t it funny how a guy that killed a guy in Reno just to watch him die ended up in Folsom Prison? I mean, Reno’s not that far from here, but it’s on the other side of a state line. Why isn’t he in a Nevada prison?

Just one of those imponderables, I suppose.

I always figured Cash's alter-ego didn't get pinched for the Reno murder. Or committed some more heinous crime in a jurisdiction that served Folsom. Or was prosecuted for some other crimes first, hoping to build up a case for the Reno murder. Or the Reno crime was actually, "lying to puff up his rep so he didn't get sold to another inmate for a box of unfiltered Marlboro Reds while wearing Folsom prison blues". Or something :>

It's also possible that the inmate could have been transfered to Folsom prison if it was a higher security prison, a level of which Nevada didn't have at the time. I don't know for sure and I could be wrong, but I don't think there are 50 max security prisons so people would have to be transfered all the time to different states for proper incarceration.
In all reality though, it's probably just something Cash didn't think about. Folsom and Reno gave the proper sound to the song for him and the details of certain facts weren't as important as the flow and feel of the song.
