We just keep rolling.

Three games left. @Arizona, @USC, and Stanford. The one I'm most worried about in that stretch is obviously USC, but Arizona plays us tough, and Stanford *really* sucks this year but it's Big Game, and Big Game is always unpredictable. Plus, if Stanford goes into the big game still not having notched a win on the year...eeeeh. I'm hoping we make Big Game somewhat irrevelant.

A game in Pasadena on New Years is within tasting distance, but I don't want to jinx the Bears by mentioning it...

Psha. If the Beavers can beat the Trojans, the Golden Bears surely can. Don't ask me what that would do to the BCS placements, though.

Beavers were at home, though, while we'll be down at USC. It'll definitely be a good game, though. This is where I'm hoping the experience at Tennessee will pay off for the Golden Bears, because maybe after facing down 107,000 hostile fans, a 90k stadium full of hostile fans (although, less so, because a lot more Cal folk go to the USC game than went to the Tennessee game) will be a lot easier.

As for the BCS standings, they've not released this week's yet, so I can't know for sure, but it basically boils out to 'win the Pac-10' for Cal. There are two ways this can happen. The method I'd prefer is simply 'beat USC and one of two of Arizona and Stanford.'

There's also the slightly more difficult 'Let Oregon or UCLA beat USC, and then we can lose to USC but we'd have to beat both Arizona and Stanford.' I don't like that one because Cal fans know the agony that can happen when you pin your hopes on another team getting it done for you.

And while I know all the scenarios, one game at a time. Arizona next, down in the desert. We can do this.

Bears move up to 8th in the nation... but Trojans are 7th. And Hee! Beavers sneak onto the BCS list in 24th.

Yes, the "any given Saturday" rule is always in play, but I think good things are in the offing. BCS-wise, I don't think Cal will rise too much higher -- the schedule isn't that tough. USC does have a tough schedule the rest of the way out. I'd be making room reservations for Pasadena now. Just in case. They can always be cancelled without charge, after all.
