It would be interesting to buy the three bottles, just to see what would happen. I believe they'd have to make you put back one and then charge you $6.66 for two... and we all know what THAT means!.

(Or, possibly, they mean two sets of three bottles each. But it certainly is unclear.)

That's a rather stupid mistake on their behalf. I'd have made a big stink over it, just to be a pita and see what their excuse was. ;)
