Okay, I've got a 13hr bus ride ahead of me tomorrow evening, and I want your opinions.

I'll have my laptop, but the battery on it is only good for a couple hours, and that won't kill a lot of time. I'll probably bring a couple books and my Gameboy, but the best way I've found, especially if I plan to sleep at all (and I'm going to need to, it's an overnight bus trip), is to put my headphones on my head and drown out everything around me. So. In this spirit, please give me recommendations for good travel tunes. I'll take all your suggestions (and bonus extra credit if you link them somewhere -- I have a lot of mp3s but not every single one) and try to assemble a mix CD to listen to on this trip.

(Yes. I'm going to Portland on a whim. Yay, adventure!)

My current car CD is made from stuff I've found on sixmartini, stickmetal, and stonewallsdonot, mostly because I made it at work and there's not much on that computer right now. ;)

I've found that the Katamari Damacy theme(on stick) is incredibly good for travelling.

Also, Tickle Cove Pond.

Zepplin, the Beatles, TMBG, Hedwig, Shpongle, Pink Floyd, Fear Factory's "Cars" ... most of which I have on my FTP. :)

um...books?

Nifty new technology. They take really thin sheets made of wood pulp that'll take a special dye, and they print on it with a pattern of symbols that convey information. And then they jam all these really thin sheets in between two thicker sheets and then sew all the little thin pieces to the big thick pieces.

...seriously, yeah, I plan to take a few (I read voraciously), but nothing says "don't bug me" like headphones on and nose in a book.

Ah, I tend to use a lot of "good road songs" on my iPod at work. Some suggestions:

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick. Get both parts one and two, and you have the entire album!

Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaraunt Hey, it's funny, good, and nearly 20 minutes long!

Berlin - The Metro Good driving song, and imnagry is good for riding on a bus.

Captain Tractor - Johnny's Ghost Indie Canadian Celtic Rock. You can't go wrong with that!

Da Vinci's Notebook - Another Irish Drinking Song Funny, and you can replay it several time without it getting old.

Dr. Hook - Cover of the Rolling Stone Yes, I tend towards amusing songs for this list. Makes the time go faster if you're listening to something that makes you smile.

Duran Duran - Ordinary World (Acoustic) Beautiful Song, and a version that really eclipses the full band version.

Eric Clapton - San Francisco Bay Blues Great toe-tapper.

Extreme - Queen Medley From the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. Extreme goes in front of 80,000 Queen fana tics and owns them. Amazing.

Frank Zappa - Billy the Mountain Zappa and the Mothers at their best, this is a 25 minute epic story of a draft dodging mountain and the super hero sent to bring him in. Seriously.

Garbage - Stupid Girl Good song, great beat.

Great Big Sea - French Perfume My favorite from their catalog, the tale of a smuggler who meets his end one night.

Indigo Girls - Galileo I love this one for the lyrics, but it is a good relaxing song.

Kristoph Klover - Others Standing By Good hard science space filk.

Kristoph Klover - Queen Isabella A tribute to the nutcase who bankrolled Columbus. Very funny.

Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis This just works as a song for a road trip.

Midnite Oil - Blue Sky Mine Great lyrics, good beat, and I can tell you from experience that it synchs well to moving at 65mph.

The Mudders - The Hero of Canton Jayne, the man they call Jayne...

Paul Simon - Kodachrome One of his best, and a great feel-good song.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground If this doesn't wake you up, check your pulse.

Tenacious D - Greatest Song in the World - Tribute Need more be said?

Toad the Wet Sprocket - Rock and Roll All Night Folksy cover of KISS.

Tom Smith - Bermuda Triangle Fun filk song about why nobody comes back.

OK, that got long. If you want any of these, let me know and I'll email them (I'll need an address.)

I assume you're using Greyhound. Have you taken a trip from the Sacramento terminal before?

I have transversed through the Sacramento terminal before, but it has neither been my origin nor destination. Until now.

(I used to make the Bay Area to Redding run, which often included a transfer in Sacramento.)

Is there something I need to be aware of?

Expect stupidly long lines for the overnight trips. I used to overnight to LA once a year, and I think I would get there around 90 minutes in advance in order to get in line early. And it's a really crappy part of town, if you haven't been to K St. at night. Not overly dangerous, just not a place to leave your luggage out of your sight. The food mart there is pretty lame since it stopped being a Burger King a few years back.

There also might be some confusion as to which line you're suppose to be in, because (last I was there) they don't have their arrival/destination gates posted up.
