Argh, fucking LJ.

If the fucking email post had worked, you would have gotten a post straight from the ER department at Sutter Roseville, mentioning the fact that mom had been taken there as a precautionary measure after a fender bender. Thankfully, it appears to be not my fault, given the guy behind us wasn't expecting me to try to stop on the yellow, he expected me to blast right through it. There is a lesson here, about safe following distances.

We're back home now, Mom is sore but okay.

I really *hate* car accidents, though.

Not the first time I've heard about something like that. Given the law says stop if it's safe on yellow, no, it's not your fault.

Your insurance co will probably go after his for the medical bills.

Yeah, I'm fine. I've got a slightly sore neck, but nothing a couple asprin won't fix. Mom's just in worse shape than me and she'll live.

The fire truck and ambulance were just precautionary measures because you don't want to mess around with neck injuries. That's what I keep telling myself.

I'm glad you're okay. The rear-ender is always at fault except in extreme and bizarre negligence. What if you'd had to stop suddenly for a pedestrian running across the road? The person behind you should be following far enough behind to stop safely.

Yeah, that's pretty much what the cop said when I talked to him. He said that the worst case scenario was that I'd be found to have stopped for no reason (highly unlikely, he said, given that the light was *yellow*) and if I had stopped for no reason, then that would be my fault, but that he's very nearly sure the other guy was at fault. Even with hard braking involved. [And I think the reason he didn't want to come out and say 100% it wasn't my fault was simply because he hadn't heard everything yet and didn't want to prejudice his remarks. Or something.]

Because, as you said, what if there was a pedestrian? Or a car not paying attention to the lights?

I'm a bit shaken up, but I think that's because I had a bad experience with my first accident.

*HUGS*

Yeah, people around here tailgate and run "orange" lights "like woah," to quote the first phrase that comes to mind with the kid reading Oz Manga behind me.

This is why doing the above is bad. SOME people actually, gee, obey the law and stop on yellow.

I hope y'all don't have any hidden damages, and wheeeee, the ER! Hope the ambulance ride (if there was one) was at least nifty.

Glad you and your mom are ok. Accidents suck.

I hate how people say fear of rear end collisions are an excuse to be running yellows (and reds) [and then they complain about the tickets they get].

Everyone just needs to slow the (@#*%&@#% down. (I am guilty of this too sometimes)

Luckily, when I rear ended someone, they admitted to having cut me off (a failed merging into the carpool lane). Collisions are not fun.
