hot hot hot!

I drove into downtown Sactown with my non-airconditioned car on Friday, and was nearly dead by the time I got back. I bought drinks nearly every time I got out of the car. (On the nifty side, I found a place that sells boba tea in Sactown. Even though it's not as good as the Berkeley boba, it's still sweet, sweet tapioca.)

Tomorrow, I get to go out to buy salad fixings, because my folks figure that'll do as a nice cool dinner.

And then I have to start pounding pavement on the job front. Anybody know any openings around Sactown for a somewhat geeky type who's got an advanced degree? (I'm still kicking myself that I didn't do the library stuff with SIMS, because I could then get a librarian job, and I think that's where I'd be the most happy. I mean, a job with books!)

Anyway, I should get myself to bed, I just wanted to share this shot of the clock with the outdoor temperature here at 1 AM.

And here I was thinking

that it was 125'F outside! Now THAT would have been HOT! Of course, being used to Celsius, I had no idea just how hot that would be - 52'C, pretty much "You can drop dead now" hot. 87.6'F (32'C) is still pretty warm for the night.

Look at the bright side though, I'm sure folks are losing weight from all the sweating (yuck) they are doing. ;-)

Yeah, it was only 109F (that's...104F is 40C, thus 113F is 45C, so about 43C...google gives it as 42.8C, so not bad, math wise) here yesterday at the hottest point.

I spent a day in 116F (~47C) heat once in a house with a broken air conditioner. The cats and I just stayed as still as possible, which is really about all you can do. That day was no fun.

And one time I was in Death Valley, where the official reading of the temp outside read 122F (50C). I didn't stay out in the heat long, but I do remember that there was a literal amount of time it took before you felt the air conditioning in the building.

The nasty thing about this is that Californians are used to heat, but a dry heat. This has had a bit of monsoon moisture attached to it, which puts the humidity maybe only at 20-30%, but to Californians who are used to 10% relative humidity, it's rather yucky out there. (Not to mention dangerous, because we don't know what to do when the humidity goes up.)

But yeah. What a year.

While it was only in the 80-90s today, here, the humidity were I worked was about 60%, and then I rode into coastal Tel-Aviv, where is was about 80%-90%. I grew up in a city where the average humidity year round was about 60%.

I need one of those things. I have a cheap one right now, but that one looks nicer than mine. Is the outside sensor wireless?

I felt some of your pain. It was 106 here Saturday when I was outside in the SHADE. The two of us counselors stole ice packs (think: for when you're injured) from the freezer and slept with them under our faces (just inside the pillowcase) and we still didn't get to sleep until after 1am both nights. High humidity, and may I add...

WASHINGTON IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS FUCKING HOT.

Amen.
