Dealing with two different browsers and their odd quirks is a pain in the ass. So here's the problem I'm dealing with.

The first picture is IE, the second picture is Firefox. Both of these are on Windows.

The problem is that the blue box is big and puffy in Firefox, and not so in IE.

Does anybody whose CSS knowledge is better than mine tell me how to make those look closer alike? I don't really care whether the blue box is puffy or thin (I slightly prefer the puffy box, but I'm more concerned about making them look similar.)

The page in question is the page linked in my prior entry and here.

I don't know the answer to your specific question, but A List Apart's section on CSS has always been my favorite resource for cross-compatibility. Here.

I can already tell by looking at your source that it's not well-formed XHTML 1.1, which may be part of your problem.

Another part of your problem may be the broken css box model in IE. That page describes the problem and includes a hacked solution. Happily, IE7 apparently has this fixed but in the meantime we're left with it.

Personally I don't recommend using hacks to fix minor problems like this, because I'm more concerned with standards-compliance than I am minor differences in appearance.

ugh

to me, css is simultaneously the coolest and most frustrating element added into web design since, well, ever...

i'm currently completely redesigning a site i made, because the errors in compliance cross-platform are unresolveable. it sucks.
