I am going to *kill* UPS.

Guess what was in the hands of the UPS guy on my doorstep. Guess who didn't knock or RING THE FUCKING DOORBELL.

...guess who wrote a yellow slip up and left. With my requiring signature package.

Yes, I am full of teh hate for UPS this morning.

[Edit: Called, and we compromised, so I'm just going down the street to where he's getting lunch to pick it up. He'd better be there.]

I hate it when they do that, and they do it all the time. I even put up a big sign that said "Package deliveries (UPS/FedEx/USPS/etc) please ring doorbell. Someone is always home. Thank you!" It worked for about a month, then they started ignoring it too. It's not like I want to interact with the drivers--I know they're in a hurry--I just don't want packages sitting unattended on the porch. A quick doorbell ring is hardly going to slow them down.

Sometimes I wonder if UPS doesn't hurry its drivers too much ("you can't spend any longer than 3.2 seconds delivering any one package" or some such), so that they can't afford to take the time to do signatures.

Call RIGHT NOW and complain. Tell them you were home and the guy didn't knock or ring the bell. Tell them that you are going to come to the depot to pick up the package and that you will not accept no for an answer considering their incompetence. They refuse? Demand a supervisor. Keep doing that until they either get your package out there or agree to have it out for you when you come in.

A few months ago, I would have agreed with that.

However...

Day 1: DHL doesn't knock or anything and leaves a note on the door.

Day 2: DHL doesn't show up. A call to them reveals that they ... couldn't find my address because it was slightly off. Nevermind that they managed to find it yesterday. And leave a slip. Corrected address. They promise to deliver tomorrow.

Day 3: Nothing shows up. A call to them shows that it went out for delivery, and nothing since. They can't answer why it didn't get scanned for its return. I tell them to hold it tomorrow and I'll pick it up [5 minute detour on my way to work]

Day 4: I spend a half hour sitting in the office, while they look for it. They eventually decide that maybe it got put out on the truck and they'll check tonight. Oh yea. And now they've lost the claim slip with the tracking number on it too. One of the drivers drove off with it. Now they have to look up the number in the computer. Total time spent waiting: an hour. They promise to order a check of all trucks tonight.

Day 5: Nothing turns up. They decide it might have gone back on the pallet back to IBM. They tell me they'll start the 'lost' paperwork with IBM. They promise to keep looking for it and let me know if it turns up in a couple days at IBM's facility. They can't explain why it wouldn't be scanned if it went that route. Not trusting them anymore, I start my own 'lost' claim with IBM.

Day somewhere around 8: DHL says it didn't turn up on the truck.

Day somewhere around 10: Someone from DHL calls. Yes. They actually called me. This is a surprise to me since they said they'd call for updates since Day ~4 and I never got one -- instead I always had to call. They want to confirm that it really was lost, and that I didn't get it in the meantime. (aka they finally got the "lost" paperwork done)
