I think the path in question was Hong Kong -> Anchorage -> Ontario, but that it seems to have all gotten garbled together in some fashion that is both annoying and frustrating.

Either that or it's Schrodinger's Laptop.

Well, at least now you have an appropriate name for it.

Bloody hell.... that's going from where to where?! because that's one hellva roundabout route no matter what!

If I'm guessing correctly, the package originated in Hong Kong, and passed through Alaska on its way to Southern California. From there, the package will be shipped north (Antelope is just outside Sacramento, CA).

But it's all garbled together, which makes it frustrating trying to figure out when to *expect* the package, so that I get it and not our houseguests.

It's either that or it's Schrodinger's Laptop, which might be an interesting item to own. %)

Have you found a name, then?

A cat, though not a Jellicle?

Well, I think we can safely say the Uncertaincy Principle applies to this one... since you either know where it is, but not what it's vector is, or where it's going but not where it is.

Not to mention it's definitly in an indeterminate state, [one of the 50, but who knows which one.]

I think you have a name for it when it arrives.

I can suggest

a couple of other interesting locations , Rome, Lisboa, Paris, Jerusalem, Cologne ( i suspect a lot of German ups fright gets in here )

Yah. This one just amused me because of all the garbledness, which makes the package look as if it was in Anchorage one minute, and then in Ontario, California the next before suddenly appearing in Anchorage and then back to Hong Kong.

Well, it's funny if it wasn't my long awaited laptop, and I'm leaving home to go to the relatives for Christmas tomorrow, leaving me to wonder just when the package is going to be delivered, so I or my folks can be there to get it and not our houseguests.

It's not quantum uncertainty, it's the International Date Line.

This is where GMT/UTC would be useful, I'd think. Even if you displayed local times to the customer, at least the order would appear to be right.

Besides, the Date Line doesn't quite make sense with the package being in Anchorage a minute before Ontario. Last I checked, Anchorage was behind us timezone-wise.

And I know in all seriousness it's either what you said, UPS getting things horribly garbled, or [livejournal.com profile] netdancer's explanation. But it's kinda fun thinking about Schrodinger's Laptop. :)

That, or the "beyond UPS's control" includes a timewarp!

Hey! A chance to use my work skiss in real life outside work!

It originated in HK - Hong Kong. It was sent to Anchorage, Alaska because there's a massive UPS Hub/Sorting facility there and that's where the main UPS customs point of entry is. It passed the first scan and was sent to the Ontario, CA Hub,,,

And there if failed the second customs inspection, probably because the paperwork coming with it was bad, missing or incomplete. I'm guessing that Alaska lost the paperwork, or that the sheet that says the items do not contain Korean DRAM was missing.

It bounced. Returned to the Alaska Hub, it was shipped back to the sender. Who corrected the errors in paperwork and hucked ity back into the system. It is now moving towards you.

Hey! This actually makes *sense*.

Thank you much. :)

Now, hopefully, UPS can give me an expected date for this package so I can get somebody in position to retrieve it for me.

Yeah, that's one garbled list, but you can follow the package's route.

Order receieved in Hong Kong at 4:49 AM GMT+8 12/19.
Picked up from Kowloon Bay at 5:35 PM GMT+8 12/19.
Loaded onto aircraft at Hong Kong airport at 8:20 PM GMT+8 12/19
Arrived in Anchorage at 1:07 PM GMT-9 12/19.
Departed Anchorage at 4:29 PM GMT-9 12/19.
Arrived in Ontario at 10:25 PM GMT-8 12/19.
Scanned as an import at 11:41 PM GMT-8 12/19.

The only odd thing in there is "THE SHIPMENT IS BEING HELD BY BROKERAGE FOR REASONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL"

Ontario, California is near LA. We've not taken over the great white north yet.
