It wasn't the earthquake; it was the fires triggered by the earthquake that destroyed San Francisco in 1906.

It wasn't the hurricane; it was the floods triggered by the hurricane that destroyed New Orleans in 2005.

San Francisco rebuilt. Will New Orleans? Only time will tell.

I keep thinking of Galveston and their great flood, how they raised their buildings 17 feet and rebuilt the land under them. Maybe they can raise the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and all the rest and restore everything at a greater altitude. I hope they never surrender.
