There are stupid Nethack deaths...and then there are extraordinary mindboggling stupid deaths. I love this game.

I'm told there are precisely 255 ways to die in that game (a perfectly reasonable number.) In one of the big international online Nethack tournaments, one of the prizes they give out is "most unique deaths" - apparently the person who won got 170 of them.

One of them that I was told about is that there's a drawbridge very far in the game. If you're standing in exactly the wrong place (or, possibly, the right place, depending on your point of view) when you open it, it crushes you. He got that far in the game for the sole purpose of being crushed by the drawbridge.
