Some of it rings true for me. Some of it I'd still have to think about. I know I do tend to speak in full sentences (hell, I *type* in full sentences, even in IRC), and as for footnotes, isn't that what a parenthetical aside is? :)

Heh. The full sentence thing... I've noticed myself actually saying "Hold on, let me think of exactly how I want to say this - *pause*" in conversation. If you want to, you can make English very precise and unambiguous, but you need to put effort into finding the exactly correct syntax. Maybe that's why law appeals to me from time to time - the practice of law is in large part the use and interpretation of language.

The other stuff, about enunciating closing consonants - I attribute that to choir camp when I was very young and got e-nun-ci-a-tion drilled into me for the whole summer. =P

Eye contact - I'll have to look into this.

Gestures - I don't know what the article means by "don't know what to do with [one's] arms", but I know I use gestures a *lot* in conversation. The "hold on, I'm thinking" gesture set has given way occasionally (for me anyway) to actual vocalized pause notes, as mentioned above.

Inline corrections - yeah, I think I do that too. So do my parents, though.

I don't understand what the articler is talking about with regard to laughter.

Facial expressions - I know I use my face a lot - I don't really know how it looks, I don't generally practice in front of a mirror, but I use eyebrows, cheeks, lips in an exaggerated manner (at least, that's how it feels from inside).

... so it can't just be fandom. I wouldn't really consider myself part of that group. I did grow up speaking text as my third language, though...
