Yeah...Berkeley is one of the domains being blocked because of the DDoS on LJ. Thus, I can only get through via sandwich.net, and reading LJ on lynx is *painful*. Thusly, I'm going to be not reading LJ until Berkeley's access to LJ is restored.

Fucking script kiddies.

So that's what's going on ! I was mapping IP to geographic location, and noticed that a large chunk of the East coast was apparently down. So I blamed the snow storm. [power outages etc].
Guess I was wrong, although I wish I wasn't. Blasted script kiddies are as bad as locusts.

If you're logging info on this thing, you should know that one of my attempts to get to LJ through AOL brought up a bizarre error screen saying they weren't able to access that info at the time. The very next attempt worked completely.

And yeah, I didn't think to look at the net traffic, way up due to the attack. Looks like some other sites are copping fallout due to upstream servers being swamped too.

Blasted morons, why the hell do they do this sort of crap ?! Yeah, yeah, I know, they're too stupid to know better and it gives thema thrill to frag a site. *sigh*
Makes me want to grab the little ******** and stick them in the tech-support front lines so they can find out what it's like to catch flack.

Thanks for the info BTW, AOL is way eccentric, and I think their programmers hate them.

I'll grant you that too, but the badly run windows boxes wouldn't matter so much if there wasn't lowlifes wandering around exploiting them. That we know such lowlifes exist is a point against the badly run windows boxes, though.

I've still got to be angry at any miscreant who will take out a site or service because they're upset about something or they think it's 'cool' to take out things, though.

(and I see that ocf.berkeley.edu is seeing LJ. Looks like that's because it's on a different range of IPs than most of the rest of berkeley.edu (including most of the OCF's main servers), but that's okay, it's still on campus net, thus I can run Mozilla over X.).
