Hell of a game.

Was biting nails the whole time, sitting in the bleachers is the best place to watch a baseball game, there's a different feel in the air for a playoff game, and Benito Santiago's home run...I called it, sorta. (Turned to my seatmate after they gave Bonds the intentional pass and said, 'Benito'll make 'em pay...")

And Rob Nen made it entirely too close, but pulled it out anyway, and yeah. Definitely worth the money I spent on it.

Giants 4, Cardinals 3, Giants advance to 3-1 in the NLCS.

Santiago won NLCS MVP too. And I remember when he was one of the Padres' two hot young catchers (the other being Sandy Alomar, Jr.)

And it feels so damn good to have won. I'm just remembering the last California series. But then again, as Aris just said, maybe the earthquake will hit LA this time. (Of course you remember it, it was your Cubs we beat to get to that series...)

And I remember Shawon's days as a Cub, I think. Wasn't he the shortstop when Sandberg was your second baseman, and you had a guy named Mark Grace holding down first? :) (And you can tell when kat was a *huge* baseball fan...)

anyway, yeah. Now to beat the angels.

Ah, yeah, I remember when Santiago was a huge name, which is why I was stoked when he came to the Cubs..and then did nothing. Alomar is still in Chicago on the south side, but he still gets a good hand when he comes back to Cleveland. (The only two Indians games I've seen were against the White Sox..someone to root against ~.~)

I vaguely remember 89, just all the winning the Cubs did that year in the regular season..but not the playoffs at all. Maybe I just didn't want to remember ~.~ ..'course, that and 84 are great sources of "Argh!" moments amongst Cubs fans, though I'm not sure if the Cubs could have taken out the Tigers in 84..or the A's in 89. 2 playoffs within 5 years of each other..and only 1 in the 13 years since. And no back to back winning seasons in 30 years, either..that's life as a Cubs fan.

Oh yeah, I remember Dunston as a kid..Grace, Ryno, Dawson..Rick Sutcliffe pitching, those guys were my childhood baseball heroes. I'm hoping (illogically) that Grace will return to the Cubs for one more go round as a mentor to Hee Seop Choi, the projected next great Cubs first baseman. (Key word, projected)

I wouldn't be surprised if at least one Giants fan waved a "Shock the Monkey" sign in Game 3 ~.~
