This really happened in my Fundamentals of Computing class:

Prof. Hearst, discussing race conditions, said, "And that is where the clock comes in...."

At that moment, the Campanile (campus clock tower) went *BONG*.

The class burst out laughing.

*grin*

In one of my QMech classes the prof was talking about alternate paradigms, and he had just said "well, we use the Schrodinger representation, but there's nothing sacred about it" when there was this *terrific* roll of thunder. The whole class started laughing, and he just looked deadpan at the heavens and said "well, there isn't!"
