Here's something I would have never dreamed I'd see in my life ten years ago:
NUMBER THREE CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS
Yup, my Bears are ranked third in the country for the first time since 1951. Knock wood, if we can keep our winning ways alive, we might miss the Rose Bowl again...to play in the national championship.
Is that something else, or what?
Anyway, I just had to record this moment. So that's what this post is.

Date: 2007-10-02 05:09 am (UTC)This was in 2001, the same year that Jeff Tedford took over the Bears. Though I'm not a blue and gold fanatic, there was something uplifting about the triumph of the 2001 season, when the Bears rebounded from 1-10 to go 7-6 with very few roster changes. I have a sincere fondness for the Bears, because they gave me so much to look forward to on Saturday, but also because having chosen them as a team to root for, I have never felt like they let me down.
Up until last year they were the only team to beat USC during the regular season for something like four years. They have taken USC to the wire 4 times out of 5, and beaten them once. That's how they play against the top team in the nation. They may not be the best, I worry that they don't have the speed to go up against LSU and that they are a little more fragile than some of the Midwest teams, but they are clearly capable of winning given the right circumstances. So yeah, I'm a Bears fan too.
