I just purchased a Baycon membership. After the local gaming con went so well, I had been thinking about driving in on Saturday and then driving back, but things seem to have worked out in such a manner that I might be able to go Sunday as well. It also appears that I'll have a week in the Bay Area, watching my second and third most favorite dogs in the world.

And then, about six weeks from now, I'll be getting on a plane and flying back East for a wedding.

So, if I can just get through this public speaking class, it'll be smooth sailing.

Where is this "East" of which you speak?

(I am reminded of my elderly cousin Zelda Hassol, the first female Bank VP in the state of Kansas (don't ask how a Brooklyn girl ended up in Kansas) who nearly wore me to a nubbin when I was 18, showing me around San Francisco (and don't ask how a bank VP from Kansas ended up with an apartment on Knob Hill). I asked her if she ever intended to go "back East", and she replied, "When I go East, I go via the Orient." She did, too!)

Philly, with day trips to New York and DC.

(if it were me, I'd figure out a way to get up your way too, but I'm with Mom and Dad and Jill, as we're coming out for a wedding in Allentown.)

And yeah, I know folks who are like that around here, but most of the time, 'back east' generally means the east side of the country.

I'm sort of pondering going to BayCon myself. What's the main attraction for you?

When are you going to be in the area dogsitting? Let me know if you want to get together again and meet the Boy.

There's a few reasons:
  1. a good chunk of my Bay Area friends go to the con.
  2. I'm a science fiction junkie and while it may not be as long as I can remember, it's been a very long time.
  3. since it's my favorite genre to read, it's also my favorite genre to write, and there's always a few things at these things that will offer tips on that aspect.

This is what I've heard about friends who have been there. Other than one night in 2004, I've not been, and while I had fun that one night, I'm fairly sure that wasn't a typical con experience. :)

Also, I'm thinking of going to Worldcon in Denver next year, so I'm trying to adjust myself before throwing myself in the big leagues, so to speak.

I'm going to be there officially from the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend to the following Sunday. (I'll be there Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend too, but that's when I'll definitely be over at Baycon, so it's out.)

At any point that week would work. Lemme know what works for you.
