I have a 1959 Cal Rose Bowl pennant:


And soon I will have a 1959 Rose Bowl program, for I have just won its auction on Ebay:


I plan to frame these two items together. I would love to have a third item in there, but unfortunately, acquiring either an unused ticket or a ticket stub from that long ago Rose Bowl game would probably both be difficult and expensive, so it's doubtful I will find one.

Can't help but dream, though.

(What's so special about 1959? It was the last time Cal was in the Rose Bowl. You see, Cal's the Chicago Cubs of the Pac-10...)

Gophers are in a similar boat--they haven't been to Pasadena since....ohhhh.....the 1960s, when they made it back-to-back, if I remember correctly. Won't be seeing it anytime soon, however.

A new cheer--"Fire Mason"--has been heard at the last couple of games. Poor guy. It's not entirely his fault. It'd be a pretty expensive thing to do, considering they just signed a new contract last year. I kind of like the guy--he's taken us to more Bowl games than any other coach. Gotta give him credit for that. He just hasn't been able to get us to that next level that could really, really make the Gophers a GREAT team.
