In my last post, I made reference to strange definitions of wintry things because here in California, we don't have winter like the rest of y'all do. So, for a bit of humor on this Thursday afternoon, I decided to share a few of them.

Wintry terms

Winter
The rainy season

Snow
What makes the mountains look pretty

Ice
What goes in your drink

Frost
What you do to a cake

Blizzard
A tasty frozen treat from Dairy Queen

Nor'easter
A person from New England

Chilly
Temperature below 70°F (21°C)

Cold
Temperature below 60°F (15°C)

Very cold
Temperature below 50°F (10°C)

Bitterly cold
Temperature below 40°F (4°C)

Can y'all think of any more? :)

Here in the Bay Area I occasionally have to scrape frost off my windshield in the morning, but that's only when I have to leave the house earlier than an hour after sunrise.

And it did snow in Palo Alto, 30-odd years ago.

Hell Freezes Over: The Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Mild Protest Dept.: This might be a Valley Californian's glossary. Growing up in Trinity County, I found 40F "just right for wearing a sweater while waiting for the schoolbus." But I do fully agree with you on the "first rain." We had ours over last weekend, and it was welcome indeed.
