I went on a wild snarfari this weekend. At my best count, I have at least 20 markers to enter. I currently have 26 snarfs in my 2006 challenge.

So now I get to have the debate on whether I ask to have my limit increased from 50 to 100 for the challenge and then possibly fail to make it, or declare victory early and coast through the rest of the year.

Decisions, decisions. ;)

(If this doesn't make any sense to you at all, I suggest you go over to Markeroni and check it out. People look at me weird when I say I like to take pictures of historical markers, but... I think it's a perfectly normal hobby. Anyway, stop by, poke around, enjoy yourself...and if you're curious about where I've specifically been, this appears to link right to it. Or at least the last few I've done anyway. Sad, 'cause there's some really good ones in my earlier stuff, which just means you should get an account and maybe even snarf a few markers yourself. Eh? EH!) :)

I have more to say about this weekend, but the hour is late, I've been driving around all day, I still smell of hot brakes, and I have homework I need to do tomorrow. So more forthcoming. Please remind me.

This sounds like a good time, and it doesn't look like anyone is doing it for NS, just yet. The process confuses me, though. It sounds like they're saying they have to be landmarks registered with the province, and that they can't figure out what the province has registered?

I will sign up when it is less early and my brain is warmed up. :)

Basically, it's a learning experience--and imperfect. If there is no information online, I can't include it. I often find out about historical marker systems through the members when they tell me about them. In some cases, the markers have to be added one at a time.

Sometimes there's a historical marker system and sometimes there's a landmark system. (Or both.)

Registered landmarks don't necessarily have plaques, but almost every state or province has at least some form of registered landmarks.

In Canada, there are "designations of national historic significance", and these *are* online. Unfortunately, they do not include actual municipalities, which is a PITA. The most I can put in is the city and title, and hope they come up in a search.

Good luck. This site is not perfect, since the information available is not perfect. Data tends to go in as it is requested or as people sign up. However, if you do sign up, I will go down to the library and see if the NS database works on a different computer to the one I am using. Then maybe I can get something in there for you.

It was a wonderful snarfari, and I greatly enjoyed meeting you.

I must go see why my cat Livvy is having a fit now.

Happy Snarfing!

Hehe, when I wrote that, I didn't expect that my grandma was coming to visit nor did I expect to drop a heavy iron grate on my foot. ;)

But so noted, I'll get back to it here after I do the dishes.
