So...I signed up with the GSI union my first semester at Berkeley and stupidly gave them my email address. Okay, I can deal with that, when I was a student and possible GSI, it was important information.

Now it's just spam. And they don't have any easy way for me to get off the list, nor is it easy to determine which address to send an unsubscribe request to. Thus, I finally got tired of it and penned this letter to the union.


I have no way of telling if this is going to get distributed to a wide list or only read by a few select people, but I'll risk looking like an idiot and say my piece. If this does happen to get distributed to a massive list, my apologies to those receiving this email, and I'd point out that if I can (accidentally) do it, spammers can too.

I would like to be removed from this mailing list, for I am no longer a student at UC Berkeley and have not been for over a year.

Also, I would like to note that it's very bad form to put people on a mailing list and provide them with no way to opt-out. This is something you might want to consider correcting, as people are less likely to listen if they feel trapped. They might even report your mail as spam, which might cause it to be blocked, thus making your mail not even seen by those who would care to get your message.
