This is a test of the multiblog client.

If I've done this right, this same entry should appear in my LJ, my GreatestJournal, and my Blogger blog.

If I haven't, it obviously *won't* work.

[Edit: Okay, so it's not the best client in the world, and if I want to add something to a post, I have to go back and do it all by hand. And right now, Blogger looks like it's going to be annoying about making me reload the blog on my own, which is something I need to check.

And since I was already asked, you can find multiblog here: http://www.skinmaster.co.uk/multiblog/]

I reupdated the post with the URL information (I knew I forgot something!), but you can find it at http://www.skinmaster.co.uk/multiblog/.

Hope that helps. :)

There are trade-off's to make in the development of a cross-posting tool like MultiBlog. Since you are posting entries to lots of locations (I know one user posts to 36 blogs!), the problem is how do you handle editing to that post? You have to store the post locally I guess, then store the id on each blog in each account that it's posted to, then edit and send off to each service. What if it's been edited individually at that service? Do I need to fetch it back from each blog at each service, compare it to the root draft, merge changes, prompt the user? What?

I decided that this was too complex a problem and added too many issues to both how the software should work externally (i.e. what the user experience is) and too many issues to how it works internally.

MutltiBlog is an offline tool, this allows you to take the time to get the post right the first time, spell checking, preview, etc. It's mainly being used by more "Journalist bloggers" than diary keepers, they're posting proper articles to multiple sources with it.

Still, if you have any suggestions for improving, please drop me a line. I've been using it myself for a long time to do exactly what you do.

Wow. It surprises me you found this, but thanks for saying something. :)

The main reason I was curious is that I've been looking on and off for a client that'll let me post entries simultaneously to LJ and GreatestJournal on and off. Somebody suggested Multiblog. I looked into it, thought it was nifty, and decided since I have an old mostly unused blogger account sitting around, I decided I'd run a test of all three.

The lack of editing was a minor complaint, really, and the reasons you explain make perfect sense to me. Even as I made the complaint, I realized how difficult it would be.

That and I just like fiddling with blogging clients. Back when LJ actually listed them, I had one of the most eclectic lists of clients going.

And I like Multiblog. Crossposting to GJ isn't quite important enough to get me to switch away from the LJ-only tool I use a lot of the time, but if it does, I'll probably be using your program much more. :)

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have a pubsub subscription for the keyword "multiblog" this allows me to easily find any posts about my software ;-)

My main blog is kept at retstak.org. I mirror posts to this Dreamwidth account, so feel free to read and comment either here or there.
