who reads these things anyway?
Apr. 3rd, 2005 12:22 amThere's a lot in my head.
So here's a brief rundown.
The dog and the cat now are cyborgs, as they have an identifying chip implanted in them. (okay, maybe not cyborgs, but it's still funny). Took three hours to get said chip, and the puppy is conked out hard because it was such a busy day.
The garage continues slowly.
This is the first time in my life that JP2 isn't the pope anymore. (More on this later, I've got a few thoughts. I am a child of a lapsed Catholic...)
Speaking of that, my parents had their 28th wedding anniversary today (April 2). Not bad for high school sweethearts.
Judging by the highly favorable reaction to Sin City by my peer group, I'm thinking I ought to see that movie.
I need to go to Best Buy and purchase a keyboard. Maybe tomorrow, or this week sometime.
I need to write.
And at the core of it all, something I found myself remarking to
tropism the other night. Despite all the chaos and work and tiredness, I'd describe my mood state as "mostly stable". Which is shockingly surprising.
It just means I'm boring and don't get much commentary. ;)
That does it for this edition of "random flotsam from kat's head". Good night.

For the record...
Date: 2005-04-03 05:33 pm (UTC)I can barely remember Pius (whatever the number), who was pope when I was born. I remember John XXIII with great fondness, and would love to see his kind of progressiveness again. (As an aside, he, too, was supposed to be an "interim" pope, a sort of papal "placeholder" - no one expected the sorts of reforms he put in motion.) I remember Paul VI as a step backward from the changes the Vatican Council II tried to make. I remember JP I with regret - I think he would have been far closer to John than to Paul in outlook, and I would have loved to have seen the changes under his papacy.
My memories of JP II are mixed - he was, as so many have pointed out, a somewhat divided man himself, reflecting both John XXIII and Paul VI in separate aspects of his papacy.
I suppose, as a former Catholic who has chosen to live life as a Jew, I really shouldn't care who becomes the next pope. But - since this office is one with such wide-reaching effect, I do find myself hoping that, whoever it may be, he'll more closely reflect John XXIII than any of the intervening popes. The Church has some major issues to address in the 21st century, and it needs progressive leadership.
