A couple thoughts.

On Frienditto: Two things said in combination here, both important. While I mostly post wide open about what's up with me, there are times that I do lock things down. It's rare, but it does happen. However, there is some expectation with the lock that it doesn't go beyond that selected group. While I still mostly subscribe to the "don't say anything on the internet that you wouldn't want splashed across the front page of the NYT the next day", there's enough privacy concerns that I must ask that you inform me if you use the service so that I may drop you. It's a general principle thing, I suppose. Since I feel this way about the service, it is fairly obvious that if you see a post by me up there, it is not my doing, and I'd appreciate it if I was informed so that I may deal with it. Thanks.

On Bad Revelations Fanfic: They've issued a prequel to the Left Behind series. ([livejournal.com profile] zibblsnrt: What, bad Jude fanfic?) Actually, no, it's about *before* they were left behind. Since I seem to have a taste for Bad Revelations fanfic...well, I'll be reading it. But it'll probably be bad. The thing that scares me the most was the following IRC convo on the subject:

[16:47] <katster> well well well.
[16:47] <katster> it isn't enough to have bad revelations fanfic.
[16:47] <katster> but now they have *drumroll* the prequel!
[16:48] <Mal-3> They're at it again, huh?
[16:48] <katster> Mal: Yep.
[16:48] <Mal-3> oy
[16:48] <Zibblsnrt> kat: Bad III John fanfic?
[16:48] <katster> They issued a "before they were left behind" book.
[16:48] <Zibblsnrt> er, Jude fanfic, anyway
[16:49] <Zibblsnrt> Cal: This is eminently boogieable
[16:49] <|phenyx> Left Behind: Behind the Laughter?
[16:49] <Zibblsnrt> Ahead Of Being Left Behind
[16:52] <katster> Zibb: the scary part is, they plan sequels
[16:52] <katster> to left behind
[16:52] <katster> you know, after Jesus comes back?
[16:52] <|phenyx> kats: of course; they sequelled Police Academy too
[16:53] <Mal-3> How exactly does *that* work?
[16:53] <Zibblsnrt> kat: Would that entail much more than a 400-page spiritual joygasm?
[16:53] <|phenyx> when you've got a cash cow, you don't stop milking!
[16:53] <William> Well, even Revelations says it only lasts 1000 years. That' 0% of eternity!
[16:53] <Zibblsnrt> Yeah, but it's a rather boring thousand years
[16:54] <William> Right, but maybe it's after the millenium. <Jesus> "Well, I've gotta be going now. To keep you guys entertained, here's a whole brand new race of demons!"
[16:54] <katster> that's what the sequel is. The Millennium.
[16:54] <katster> ...because apperantly you can still choose evil after jesus comes back because the devil's only bound, not dead.
[16:55] <aio> ...
[16:55] <Calculus> So what's the point then?
[16:55] <katster> I don't make this stuff up!
[16:55] <Zibblsnrt> Wouldn't those be rather short books, though? <plebe> Depravity, I choose y- <Jesus> *flaming sword of justice* No.<tm>
[16:55] <katster> Cal: because God tests puny humans to make sure they can live up to His Eternal Goodness and Light.
[16:55] <Calculus> Oh good.
[16:56] <katster> Zibb: No, see, Jesus doesn't stop.
[16:56] <katster> Jesus just kinda lets it happen. Apperantly, grooving in the eternal goodness and light of Jesus doesn't help.
[16:56] <William> ... maybe it's sci-fi. We head out to uplift alien races. Oh ye gods, fundie transhumanists....
[16:56] <Calculus> o/~ Stop / The Jesus / Can't stop the Jesus o/~
[16:57] <Zibblsnrt> Will: hehe, the Transhuman Space setting includes those. %)
[16:58] <William> "No, no, see, our god actually lives on our planet right now. You can come meet him, or at least you could if it wasn't a sin to demand proof beyond faith alone." "But..." "No buts or I'll turn you back into a pack animal! Kneel and thank your Creator!" "Uh... right... well, thank you, sir, I appreciate the gift of sentience..." "Not ME, you blasphemer! Die!"

On the move and Cal tickets: I'm debating paying the money for Young Alum tickets for next season. On the one hand, I'll actually be living close enough to make attendance at games possible. On the other hand, it'll still be a bit of a hassle, even coming in from Sacramento. That said, I am doing what I can to make it to Big Game this year, which is at Furd, and promises to be interesting since they have a new coach and are hurting from the beating we put on them last year.

On the move: I'm really close to scaling my internet presence back somewhat just so that I can get through everything, because there just doesn't feel like enough time to get everything done. Really sorry if you love my divine presence or something. ;)

Other than that, well, y'know how to get ahold of me. That does it for this edition.

On frienditto, be sure to check out [livejournal.com profile] ditto_cops for lists of folks who belong to that service.

On getting Young Alumni tickets. Do it!

The parts of LB that took place after Jesus arrived were frighteningly boring.

I do admit to being quite curious about the new book, though.

It sucks.

The Left Behind Series, with the exception of the "after Jesus comes back" of the last book, is at least a fun romp in the vein of thriller novels everywhere. In which, while the theology may at least be questionable, and the characters are rather wooden, they're fast reads and kinda fun if you don't really engage your brain.

This book isn't like that. While writing prequels are fun (I know, I'm working on it right now in regards to one of my characters -- but it helps me understand the character more deeply, knowing where she comes from), the genre doesn't call for it. I don't really particularly care about where the characters in thrillers come from, because they're supposed to be somewhat wooden in their presentation -- what happened before is somewhat irrevalent to what's going on now.

Besides, I just had issues with the way they did Nicolae's character. And Ray Steele comes off as a somewhat whiny jerk with what they with him.

Ick. Yeah. I'd have to say give it a pass.

I found it at the library, so I read it.

Didn't think it sucked too bad, but yeah, it wasn't as compelling. I'm not impatient for the next book because, well, I already know how it all turns out :)
