Fifty nine years ago, on this date, a single plane dropped a single bomb, and the world was changed forever.

I'm going to get nailed for this...

However, given the potential loss of life to win the war for the US on that site - ie invading the Japanese mainland. I think the right choice was made.

*Puts on flame resistant stuff and raises shields*

You know, I'm not arguing that point. It's possible to completely agree that yes, dropping the atom bomb was the right thing to do, and at the same time express a thought that it was horrific and it shouldn't happen again.

Especially these days, when we have atomic warheads that make the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs look like a flea bite.

I would have to agree there, I was just saying that I don't agree that we dropped the bomb to scare the russians or that we dropped the bomb cuz we didn't care what happened to them. I think we did care, and in that climate it is unfortunate, hell, tragic that our paths through life took us to that point, but none-the-less it did.
