Two things:

  1. http://www.neighborhoodproject.org/castrobus.php -- all being generated on the fly from my database. :)
  2. Query for y'all. What would you, if you were moving to a new neighborhood, want to know about in terms of stores and services? Stuff like grocery stores and libraries and vets and things like that. Tomorrow is my day for attempting to compile all that data together and get it in the database.

Oh yeah, and Mom goes in the hospital tomorrow. Keep her in your thoughts and/or prayers, if you wouldn't mind.

And maybe tomorrow I'll find time to write of our softball game last Monday.

I usually use yp.yahoo.com to look for restaurants, bookstores, grocery stores, and coffeehouses. It doesn't help much with some things I wonder, though, like what places are open late at night.

supermarket & pharmacy are essentials for survival, as are libraries, veterinarians, clinics

so are bookstores! (both new and 2nd-hand)

oh, and a good, non-nationwide-chain hardware store is a good thing to have

garages with actual mechanics

coffeeshops; nice little hole-in-the-wall inexpensive restaurants, of any sort (my favorite, in SE Bellevue, WA, is Greek/Italian/American, run by the same family since the early 50s, has the best breakfasts, burgers, and dinners....)

oh, also, other second-hand stores

--glinda, living in the wrong neighborhood at this time *sigh*

Some of the more important things off the top of my head...

- Independent music/CD stores
- Independent book stores
- Little hole-in-the-wall type resturants for various different types of food
- More food places. Especially ones that are open 24hrs.

Luck to your mom!

As to the rest, probably too late to be useful: Restaurants. All-night stores. Playgrounds/parks.

This is actually really important to us, as everything has to be within walking distance (in case I get hit by a bus).

Cleaner
Laundry
Bank
Restaurants/sub & pizza spots, etc.
Convenience store (supermarket is better, convenience will do)
Hardware store
Liquor store
Library
Drugstore
Coffee-shop
Shoe repair
Fire/Police

Knowing which pharmacy is 24 hours, nearest emergency room, nearest walk-in clinic, closest vet emergency. Second hand clothing stores, used furniture stores. Which banks are in the area, and atm locations. Laundromats?
