Sobering. While I still think there was a right way and a wrong way to handle Iraq, and I'm still pretty sure we took the wrong way, this is as sober and well-reasoned an arguement for the war as I've read. I'd like to get [livejournal.com profile] zibblsnrt's and a few other folk's commentary on it, though.

Is it ?

If we've taken the wrong road with Iraq, it begs the question what would have been the right road ?
In this war we've lost less than a dozen lives to direct enemy action. In WW2 they lost more than that in the first hour.

Having said that, I don't actually disagree, I just don't know what the answer is.

As to the article. Mayhap it's a tad biased, but none-the-less insightful and thought provoking for that. It's impossible to be free of bias, and at least his is honestly in the open.
and just perhaps he's right.

I don't think the question is about how well the war is being handled (I don't know of anyone who has serious complaints on that front who actually has even the faintest idea about tactics and strategy) - I think the question is more along the lines of whether it should have happened at all, and whether it should have been started in this way.

According to an ex-Army Ranger of casual aquaintance (so take with salt as needed), Rummy's planned this war out the same way MacNamara planned out Vietnam - more to showcase War of the Future rather than to win the damned thing.
