It's rare I finish a book and burst out in tears.

I just did that at the end of The Wizard's Dilemma, Book #5 of the Young Wizards series. (Good set of books, btw, if you liked Harry Potter, you'll prolly like these ones. Start with So You Want to Be a Wizard, then Deep Wizardry, High Wizardry, and A Wizard Abroad before hitting this one.)

Obviously, I've read them all, and I identify strongly with the main character, Nina Callahan, who is the oldest of two. Not spoiling much to say that her mom gets seriously ill (that's in the blurb on the back of the novel), and it probably comes as no surprise that something that serious would probably be the big C, cancer.

A lot of you weren't around May before last, when we discovered my mother had leukemia.

Eldest of two. Felt completely helpless to do anything. Watched everything be touch and go for days...i mean, she's just in the other room, asleep with Dad, in remission, and yet all those old helpless feelings came washing over me, and I started to cry, and I'm still crying.

And it seems so silly...

but that's just the way it works, I guess.

And I need a hug, and it's late...and well, that's that.
