yay.

turns out this damned sore throat is most likely strep. Ugh. And to top it off, I got another thing added onto my list of "Things You Do *NOT* Fuck Around With to See If They'll Go Away On Their Own."

The big thing previously on that list is UTI's, and after suffering through the hell that was a kidney infection last fall, I'm not arguing anymore.
And now, I'm told that adults who had strep a lot as kids (as I did, two or three times a winter) are at risk for massive complications from strep as adults, so in other words, I'm not to wait and see if a sore throat gets better before jumping on it either.

Yay. I'm a walking medical disaster. And I think I'll wander off for a nap.

Ow. I had strep as a kid too, not as much as my brother, whose tonsils are permanently swollen from the number of times he had strep, but fairly often when I was young.

No, it's really not something you can let go, turns into something that can be life threatening if left unchecked.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. I think that BOYC might better be Listerine! *grin*

'twas funny. It wasn't until the tonsils came out that I started getting strep with any regularity. And not only would I get the strep, but I'd get the rash too, which is scarlet fever. Yay. Not much fun. The only good thing is that it meant two or three days out of school, so...

Yeah, I know the strep bug is fairly dangerous, but it gives me more ammo when I go back to Berkeley and have to fight UHS. "It's just a sore throat!" "I've been told to jump on any sore throats immediately -- most of the time it'll just a sinus drainage problem, but if it's strep, I need to whack it down." Hopefully that'll get them to shut up. (They're not the best down at University Health Services.)

I think the only reason I was out for a few days is that my mom jumped on any sign that we were sick as doctor time. I only remember getting the shots of pink stuff for pneumonia, and whatever attacked me the week I was scheduled to go to Sacramento for the state finals of a speech contest and needed to be sorta well by Wednesday morning.

(I don't remember what that was, but my English teacher remembers seeing me that Monday morning and noticing I didn't look all that good. But I suffered my way through to English class, gave my oral book review and then asked if I could go home...he still remembers that.)
